Fundamental Teaching, framed as a set of Core Competencies, provides teachers with a foundation for reaching students and helping them. At the YTC, we draw on these principles when we prepare novice teachers and when we help experienced teachers reflect on their teaching and experiment with new approaches. Fundamental Teaching combines with disciplinary principles and individual inspiration to ignite students' curiosity and drive to understand. The Competencies act as a standard that any teacher can use to design courses or to understand how courses work and why students learn.
